Amanda Thomson appears in Mashed article on alcohol-free v non-alcoholic

Mashed has written a helpful guide to understanding the difference between non-alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks options.

In Amberley Mckee's article, she outlines that to qualify as non-alcoholic the drinks has to contain less than 0.5% ABV.  To be truly alcohol-free the drinks must contain no alcohol.

Amanda Thomson, CEO and Founder of Noughty Non-Alcoholic Wine is quoted as saying, "Everyone who gives it proper thought recognises that whichever way we cut it, alcohol is not healthy. And if you can still party without it, then it's win-win."

Luckily, Noughty Sparkling Wine contains no alcohol.  It has has all the alcohol removed.  Noughty still wines contain less than 0.5% and are classed as dealcoholized.  There is debate as to the significance of recognising alcohol levels less than 0.5% because many household ingredients, food and drink contain small amounts of alcohol that the body processes without any residual effects.

However, whether for religious reasons or a need to avoid any alcohol, it is important that the wine and wider drinks industry maintains clarity on this subject for consumers.
